Update!

  • by

Hello everyone! This quick update comes from our very own Human Resources team, which is in charge of the hiring and wellbeing of our fantastic team.

With the global pandemic that is occurring all around us, it has been important for SoMM to continue to make music accessible for the Montreal community despite some logistical challenges. Now more than ever, we need music’s uniting and healing power as we navigate these difficult times.

To allow for teaching to continue with in-person restrictions, lessons are being held over Zoom this year. We are happy to announce that we have wonderful students being taught violin, clarinet, piano and voice from three different schools: Riverview Elementary, Verdun Elementary, and Beurling Academy. All of these students are SoMM student alumni who loved their lessons so much that they wanted to continue with SoMM!

Moving forward, SoMM has just received an order of ukuleles, recorders and practice pads (drums), which will be used in our upcoming SoMM pilot expansion project. Over the next year we are hoping to expand our program to new schools in Montreal, providing these instruments as the groundwork for our music education program! We’re ecstatic to be able to continue to spread the joy of music to these schools and hope they will find a new home with SoMM.

Until the next blog post, happy holidays and happy end of semester! Stay tuned for SoMM updates in the upcoming semester!!
