Last week, our founder Chris Ma was awarded the Iris Unger recognition award by YES! Montreal. This award recognizes artists and entrepreneurs whose project best reflects the values that Iris Unger, YES’ former Executive Director, instilled during her 18 years at YES. These values are dedication and passion, success through hard work, and a true commitment to making a difference in the community.
We are thrilled that our founder was chosen as the best person that reflects all of these values. The School of Music Montreal has been hard at work since 2014 in order to provide free musical education in a safe and supporting environment to children at risk. Our mission has recently been transferred online but remains in place and functional. Receiving this award will enable us to grow and help more children learn music.
Chris Ma started SoMM 6 years ago and we are very proud of what we have grown to become. Each year we allow numerous students to learn music in a fun and educative environment. We strive to give them multiple opportunities and give them a sense of personal empowerment through music. Special thanks to YES! Montreal for acknowledging SoMM but also many thanks to the many volunteers and schools that enable us to carry out our mission.
