Weekly School Programs

Empowering Youth Through Music Education in Montreal Schools

Our flagship Weekly School Program brings high-quality music education directly to elementary and high school students across Montreal and Quebec. Through partnerships with local schools, School of Music Montreal-a dedicated non-profit music charity-offers free, weekly music lessons during or after school hours. These sessions are led by passionate volunteer mentors and experienced music teachers.

Working closely with host school teachers and administrators, we identify students who will benefit most from our music programs. Each student is matched with a mentor based on their experience level, instrument preference, and availability. Our mentors provide personalized, one-on-one or small group instruction, ensuring every child receives the attention and support they need to thrive.

All instruments and equipment are provided at no cost, breaking down barriers to music education for youth in our community. Beyond learning to play, students build confidence, develop creative skills, and form meaningful connections with their mentors. The Weekly School Program is at the heart of our mission to make music accessible for every child in Montreal and Quebec.

Community Workshops

Accessible Music Workshops for Youth and Families in Montreal

School of Music Montreal offers engaging Community Workshops designed to introduce the joy of music to youth and families throughout Montreal and Quebec. These free, one-time or multi-session workshops are hosted in partnership with community centres, schools, and local organizations, making music education accessible to all.

Our workshops are tailored to the needs of each community and are open to participants of all ages and skill levels, with a special focus on elementary-aged children and youth. Led by our team of enthusiastic volunteer mentors and music educators, each session is filled with interactive activities, rhythm games, and hands-on musical exploration.

By removing barriers and creating a fun, supportive environment, our Community Workshops inspire participants to discover their musical potential, build confidence, and connect with peers. As a non-profit music charity, we are committed to fostering creativity and inclusion through music across Montreal and Quebec.

Partnership Programs

Collaborative Music Education for Special Needs and Community Partners

At School of Music Montreal, we believe that music has the power to transform lives and strengthen communities. Our Partnership Programs are designed to bring customized music education to organizations and groups with unique needs across Montreal. We collaborate closely with partner organizations-such as autism-specific schools, asylum seeker support programs, and community centers-to co-create music programs that are tailored for their participants.

Each partnership begins with a conversation: we listen to the goals, challenges, and dreams of our partners. Together, we design a program that fits their space, schedule, and community needs. Our experienced team of volunteer mentors and music educators then delivers engaging, inclusive, and accessible music sessions-ranging from group classes to specialized workshops.

These programs help break down barriers to music education, foster creativity, and build confidence in participants of all backgrounds. By supporting our Partnership Programs, you help us reach more youth and adults who may not otherwise have access to the joy and benefits of music.

Individual Lessons

Empowering Youth with Tailored Music Instruction in Montreal

For individuals who need a more personalized approach, our Individual Lessons offer one-on-one music instruction tailored to each student’s interests and goals. We often work with youth and adults who are referred to us by community organizations, schools, or social service agencies. This program is especially impactful for those who may face barriers to traditional music education, such as financial limitations, language challenges, or special needs.

Our dedicated volunteer mentors and music teachers provide individualized attention, adapting lessons to each student’s pace and preferred instrument. Whether a beginner or looking to advance their skills, every student receives encouragement, support, and access to instruments and learning materials.

Individual Lessons at School of Music Montreal empower participants to express themselves, develop new skills, and build self-esteem through music. Your support helps us continue to offer these life-changing opportunities to those who need them most.

Music Therapy Drop-In Sessions

Accessible Music Therapy for Mental Health and Well-Being

Recognizing the profound impact of music on mental health and well-being, our Music Therapy Drop-In Sessions are open, welcoming spaces for university students and community members-especially during stressful periods like exams. Led by licensed music therapists, these sessions offer a safe, supportive environment to relax, de-stress, and connect through music.

Participants are invited to join at their own pace, with no prior musical experience required. Activities may include guided relaxation with music, group improvisation, songwriting, and open discussions. Our music therapists use evidence-based techniques to help reduce anxiety, boost mood, and foster a sense of community and belonging.

By supporting our Music Therapy Drop-In Sessions, you help us provide accessible mental health resources and promote well-being through the healing power of music.
