Volunteer Eligibility

We are looking for passionate volunteers that want to support our mission of promoting music education equality.

Our music teachers are passionate, dedicated educators who want to help us foster a safe and nurturing environment for our students while promoting social sustainability. Some music experience is needed. Bilingualism is not necessary as we serve English and/or French speaking students.

Our organizational team members are diligent volunteers who work in different teams to help the program run smoothly throughout the year. They can including, marketing, operations, events, fundraising and more. No music experience necessary.

  • Be residing in the Greater Montréal Area
  • Be 18 year of age or older
  • Be motivated to support and contribute to SoMM’s mission and goals
  • Have some music experience (professional/certified not required) if you are applying to teach
  • Have some experience working or volunteering with underserved populations if you are applying to teach
  • Be willing to undergo a criminal record check if you are applying to teach
  • Be dedicated and willing to contribute and commit to administrative tasks and duties if you are applying to be on the organizational teams.

No, you do not have to be a part of McGill University to volunteer. While some local and team meetings happen on the McGill campus and in the downtown area, you do not need to attend the university to volunteer as a music teacher. Some executive positions may be restricted in certain situations.

You should apply as soon as possible. We have music teacher intakes during August-September, and also December-January of each year. Organizational volunteers are encouraged to apply during those times as well.
